At one point, I even thought that perhaps no company would be interested in hiring a housewife like me.

One day, I received an email notification containing the word 'Congratulations'. It felt like winning a grand prize. I opened the email with excitement and completed a simple assessment provided in the link. A week later, I received another email that began with 'Congratulations and Welcome on Board'. It was a moment I will never forget.

However, once I started working, I realized that remote work was not as easy as I had imagined. There were many technical aspects to understand, such as time zone differences, high communication standards, and the need for consistent discipline. My journey began with a new chapter in life—marriage. I decided to leave my career to accompany my husband who worked in a different city. Before leaving my job, I fulfilled all my responsibilities, completed my tasks, and guided the colleague who would replace my role.

It was not easy. The daily routines and patterns that had shaped my life changed almost completely. Becoming a housewife was a new role with complex responsibilities, often without clear guidelines. Learning by experience became the most accurate description of this phase.

My First Encounter with Remote Work

After about ten years away from the workforce, one day I felt a moment that clicked. While casually scrolling on my phone, I stopped at a video from an influencer whose words caught my attention.

“Housewife? Don’t be sad. Just stay at home and scroll your phone—you can earn a double-digit income.”

At first, I did not believe it. What kind of job pays you just for scrolling on your phone?

Out of curiosity, I explored more of the content and eventually found the term 'Remote Jobs'. This was a system of working where employees do not need to be physically present in an office and tasks are delivered online.

Understanding the Reality of Remote Work

I saw an opportunity—a possible balance between my responsibilities at home and my desire to become productive again.

However, as I learned more, I realized something important: remote work is not simply about scrolling your phone and getting paid. Misleading information like that can harm many people who enter this field with unrealistic expectations.

Remote work is not an easy or casual job. It demands discipline, responsibility, and continuous self-improvement.

Essential Foundations I Learned

There are several key foundations I learned while entering the world of remote work.

The first is English proficiency. In my experience, English acts as a gateway into the remote work industry. Even when job titles mention Native Indonesian Speaker, interviews and communication are often conducted in English.

The second is building a strong CV. At the beginning, I felt confused about how to create a professional CV. I started using AI tools to help draft an ATS-friendly CV, then reviewed and refined it based on my real experience.

The third foundation is mental strength. Remote work requires patience and resilience. Waiting for responses after interviews can take time, and maintaining productivity during this waiting period is essential.
